Overview
Hoglet is a personal voice reflection app. This policy explains what information Hoglet handles, why it is needed, what remains after a reflection, and how you can delete your personal reflection data.
When you start a reflection, Hoglet processes microphone audio and creates temporary transcript turns so the assistant can respond and produce your reflection. Hoglet does not keep an audio recording or a permanent archive of the full conversation. It keeps the summaries and structured reflection data described below until you delete them.
Who operates Hoglet
Hoglet is operated by an independent developer based in New Zealand.
Questions about this policy or personal data can be sent to [email protected].
Data Hoglet collects or processes
Hoglet collects or processes the data needed to provide voice reflections, generate reflection outputs, manage subscriptions, operate the service, and diagnose reliability issues.
- Account and authentication data, such as user identifiers, name, email address, and profile image information provided through sign-in with Apple or Google.
- Optional profile context, such as a nickname and about-me text, if the user chooses to provide them.
- Microphone audio during active voice reflection sessions, so Hoglet can process speech and respond during the conversation.
- Temporary transcript turns during active reflection sessions and while reflection outputs are being generated.
- Reflection summaries, including per-session summaries and daily summaries built from completed reflections.
- Sentiment scores, emotional intensity, moods, themes, and short supporting excerpts associated with mood and theme findings.
- Memories, including text, themes, importance metadata, and search embeddings derived from completed reflections.
- Reflection notes the user explicitly asks Hoglet to save, including source links and search embeddings derived from note text.
- Subscription, purchase entitlement, and reflection minute balance data used to manage access to voice reflection sessions.
- Diagnostics, errors, and reliability data used to troubleshoot problems and keep the app working safely.
How Hoglet uses data
Hoglet uses personal data to provide the features users choose to use.
- Authenticate users and maintain account access.
- Run voice reflection sessions and allow the assistant to respond during active conversations.
- Generate summaries, daily summaries, sentiment, moods, themes, and memories from completed reflections.
- Provide relevant memories as context in future reflection sessions.
- Save, display, edit, delete, and search user-requested Reflection notes.
- Display reflection history, mood movement, and recurring themes in the app.
- Manage subscriptions, entitlements, and reflection minute balances.
- Provide support, diagnose errors, and maintain service reliability and security.
AI processing
Hoglet uses OpenAI to understand speech, respond during the conversation, and generate reflection outputs after a session ends.
During an active reflection, microphone audio is sent to OpenAI for realtime speech processing and conversation. OpenAI also returns transcript text for the user's speech and Hoglet's responses.
After the reflection, Hoglet sends those transcript turns to OpenAI to generate outputs such as summaries, daily summaries, sentiment, moods, themes, and memories. Hoglet configures its OpenAI Responses API requests not to be stored as application state by OpenAI.
Hoglet also uses OpenAI to create search embeddings from saved memory and Reflection note text. Memory embeddings help retrieve continuity context; note embeddings help the user search notes by topic.
OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train or improve its models unless the API customer explicitly opts in. Hoglet has not opted in to share its API data for model training.
Hoglet uses OpenAI's standard API data controls and does not currently have OpenAI's Zero Data Retention or Modified Abuse Monitoring controls. OpenAI may retain customer content from Realtime, Responses, and embedding requests in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days. OpenAI states that it may retain those logs longer when legally required or reasonably necessary to protect its services or third parties. This abuse-monitoring retention is separate from application-state storage.
Hoglet keeps the resulting reflection outputs and related metadata, not the full conversation transcript.
Microphone, transcripts, and reflection sessions
Hoglet uses microphone access only when a user starts a voice reflection session. Microphone audio is processed during the active session so the voice assistant can understand and respond. Hoglet does not save a separate audio recording.
Microphone permission can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings. Voice reflection sessions cannot run without microphone access.
Temporary transcript turns are stored while a reflection is active and while reflection outputs are being generated. When output generation completes successfully, those transcript turns are deleted.
If output generation does not complete, transcript turns may remain stored until they are removed through personal data deletion or other data removal described in this policy.
Hoglet does not maintain a permanent full-transcript archive.
What Hoglet saves after a reflection
After a reflection is complete and outputs have been generated, Hoglet saves the reflection outputs and related metadata below. Hoglet does not save the full conversation transcript.
- Per-session and daily reflection summaries.
- Sentiment scores, emotional intensity, moods, themes, and short supporting excerpts linked to those findings.
- Memories and related metadata, including search embeddings derived from memory text.
- Reflection notes explicitly saved during a voice reflection, their source links, and search embeddings derived from note text.
- Reflection session records and timestamps used to show past reflections and trends.
- Mood and sentiment trends shown in the app are derived from the saved data above.
Service providers
Hoglet uses third-party providers for authentication, realtime voice conversations, AI processing, subscriptions, hosting, storage, diagnostics, and support. Hoglet requires providers that receive personal data to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable requirements. Hoglet does not sell personal data.
Depending on the features a user chooses, Hoglet may share data with the providers below only as needed to provide their services:
- Convex — application backend, database, authentication, and storage.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store purchase processing.
- Google — Google sign-in.
- OpenAI — realtime voice processing, transcript generation, post-reflection AI extraction, and memory and Reflection note embeddings.
- RevenueCat — subscription and purchase entitlement management.
- Sentry — error reporting and limited technical diagnostics.
- Cloudflare — hosting for the Hoglet website at hoglet.fyi.
International data processing
Hoglet is operated from New Zealand. Its service providers may process data in New Zealand and in other countries, including countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as the user's country of residence.
Where required, Hoglet relies on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Subscriptions and reflection minutes
Hoglet uses subscription and purchase entitlement data to manage access to voice reflection sessions and to show remaining reflection minute balances. Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and managed with RevenueCat.
Saved reflection data remains available after a subscription ends. An active subscription or available reflection minutes are required to start new voice reflection sessions.
Diagnostics and tracking
Hoglet uses Sentry to collect crash reports, errors, and limited technical diagnostics needed to investigate reliability issues. Hoglet does not use advertising networks and does not use cross-app tracking for advertising purposes.
Security
Hoglet uses encryption in transit for communications with its services and relies on its providers to apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and Hoglet cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data deletion and user rights
Users can delete personal reflection data from Settings. This removes reflection history, summaries, moods, themes, Reflection notes and their embeddings, memories, transcript turns, and optional nickname and about-me profile context.
Deleting personal data does not delete the user's account, subscription entitlements, reflection minute balance, billing records, or app settings such as voice and language preferences.
Users can also permanently delete their Hoglet account from Settings. Account deletion removes the user's Hoglet sign-in, reflections, memories, settings, remaining minutes, and account-linked billing state. A later sign-in creates a new Hoglet account.
Deleting a Hoglet account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Users should manage or cancel the subscription separately through Apple. Users who signed in with Apple are also shown how to remove Hoglet from their Sign in with Apple settings.
Some limited global purchase-delivery, security, fraud-prevention, diagnostic, legal, and operational records may remain where they are not part of the user's Hoglet account or must be retained for those purposes.
Users can contact [email protected] to ask privacy questions, request help deleting data, or make another request about their personal data.
Data retention
Hoglet keeps saved reflection data for as long as the account remains active or until the user deletes it, unless a longer retention period is required for legal, security, billing, or operational reasons.
Temporary transcript turns are deleted after reflection outputs are generated successfully. If generation does not complete, transcript turns may remain until removed through personal data deletion.
Diagnostics and reliability records may be kept for a limited period to troubleshoot issues and maintain service security.
Billing, subscription, and purchase-related records may be retained as needed to manage entitlements, reconcile transactions, and meet legal or accounting obligations.
Children's privacy
Hoglet is an adult general-audience service for people who are at least 18 years old or the age of majority where they live, whichever is higher. It is not directed to children.
If Hoglet learns that an account belongs to a minor who is not eligible to use the service, Hoglet will stop providing the service for that account and handle its personal data in accordance with applicable deletion, retention, and legal requirements. Contact [email protected] if an account may belong to an ineligible minor.
Policy updates
This policy may be updated as Hoglet changes, launches new features, or confirms service providers and legal details. The last updated date will be revised whenever the policy changes.
